Barbaric Maoist Attack Condemned

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the barbaric attack by the Maoists on a convoy carrying Congress leaders participating in the ‘parivartan yatra’ of the party in Bastar district of Chattisgarh. The attack has led to the death of 18 people including senior Congress leaders like the state Congress President and injuries to several others. This is the latest and most shocking example of the politics of violence and terror practiced by the Maoists against all their political opponents.

Judicial Probe Into Bijapur Incident

The truth must be established about the Centre and State Government’s claims of an encounter between armed Maoists and its forces. The terrible plight of villagers, mainly tribals, caught in the violence between the Maoists on the one hand and the State forces on the other has led to a wide questioning of the methods used by the forces in the name of fighting Maoists which ends up targeting the most exploited sections of our society.

Maoist Killings Condemned

The Maoists killed four CPI(M) supporters Nazrul Mir, Sanatan Ahir, Swapan Ahir and Ashok Ahir in Chandavilla village in Binpur-2 Block of West Midnapore by taking them out of their homes in the middle of the night. Their bodies were found near the Highway, bearing marks of torture. All the killed were agricultural labourers.

Maoist Attack on Police Camp

The Maoists have been on a rampage in the West Midnapur district for over a year. The joint operations by the state police and the central paramilitary forces were launched to curb the Maoist violence. It is surprising that such an attack could be launched in daytime on a police camp with such large casualties and arms and ammunition being taken away.

Abducted CPI(M) Leader Released

Comrade Ananda Masi Horo, the popular tribal leader and two time zila parishad member in Sundargarh district, Orissa, who was abducted by Maoists on January 23 was found alive in an unconscious state by local people. The earlier report given by the police that he had been killed was erroneous. However the Maoist depredations in the area continue. Their armed gangs this morning have kidnapped another tribal leader working in the CITU affiliated mine workers union threatening the workers to leave the union.
