A two-member delegation consisting of General Secretary Sitaram Yechury and Central Committee Member Mridul De will be departing for Greece today on a four day visit at the invitation of the Communist Party of Greece.
The working class, that is to say the class which will carry out the socialist revolution, and its allies, the popular strata, i.e. the semi-proletarians and the poor intermediate strata – taking into account contemporary conditions – experienced an unprecedented decline in the living standards, and their labour and social rights, due to capital’s strategy and the counter-revolutionary overthrow which took place in the 1980s and 1990s.

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) warmly congratulates the people of Greece who have given a resounding “No” verdict in the referendum. With a 61.3 per cent vote, the Greek people have resoundingly rejected the bailout austerity measures sought to be imposed upon them by the neo-liberal forces represented by the Troika comprising the IMF, European Central Bank and the European Commission.
