The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:
J & K: Centre’s Flood Relief Totally Inadequate
In utter disregard of the Jammu & Kashmir government’s earlier memorandum to the Central Government regarding grant of Rs 44000 crore as rehabilitation package, the Central Government has now announced a mere Rs. 1667 crore. Of this, only Rs. 551 crore is earmarked as exgratia for repair/reconstruction of damaged/destroyed houses.
The comprehensive rehabilitation package should have included reconstructing of the damaged infrastructure, rehabilitation of those who lost their residential houses and adequate compensation to all whose livelihood has been destroyed.
The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) demands reconsideration of the package on priority and calls upon the Central Government to fulfill its assurances.
