The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) currently meeting at New Delhi has issued the following statement.

Attack on the Central Office of the CPB Condemned

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) condemns the dastardly bomb attack on the Central office of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) in Dhaka carried out by the Hefajote Islam (a grand alliance of religious extremists) and Jamat-e-Islami’s armed militants. At the time of the attack, the general secretary of the Party, along with other leaders, was in office and fortunately all of them were unhurt.

Since the war crimes tribunal started pronouncing verdicts against the fundamentalist forces who had played a treacherous role during the Bangladesh’s war of liberation, these forces had taken to violence and anarchy. Attack on the CPB was a part of that conspiracy.

A heartening feature is the resistance offered by the people of Bangladesh, particularly its youth, against these attacks by the fundamentalist forces. The CPI (M) expresses its solidarity with the CPB and all the other forces in the country who are valiantly resisting the fundamentalist forces and their attack on the secular, democratic polity of Bangladesh. The government of Bangladesh should act firm against the fundamentalist forces responsible for these kind of attacks and the perpetrators of crimes should be immediately made to stand trial.
