The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) mourns the passing away of Shri Krishan Kant, Vice President of India. Shri Krishan Kant had a long and distinguished public life with the beginning in the freedom struggle. While in the Congress, he was known for his socialist views and during the emergency he took a firm stand against authoritarianism. He served the country as a parliamentarian and became the Vice President of India during the United Front Government. He upheld secular values in public life.

The Polit Bureau conveys its heartfelt condolences to Smt. Suman Krishan Kant, his daughter and sons.
