Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s fifth visit to the United States of America during these three years has resulted in very little gains for India or even attention to be paid by the US to India’s immediate concerns. The Joint Statement issued with President Trump only reconfirms India’s status as a subordinate ally of the USA.
Note on Political Developments
(Adopted by the Central Committee
At its Meeting – June 18-20, 2016)
Modisarkar’s single biggest failure – betrayal is a better word for it – is on the jobs front. Two years ago Modi was voted to power because he promised again and again in his campaign speeches that the days of joblessness are going to be over soon, “achche din” (good times) are coming.
One of the two biggest failures of the Modi Sarkar has been its complete failure to control food prices. The other failure is creation of jobs. Let us look at the prices here. Food prices have climbed up steadily in the past one year destroying family budgets and undermining much needed nutritional intake.
The Polit Bureau congratulates the working class of India for the magnificent strike they organized on September 2, 2015. The CPI(M) had extended full support to the strike and the demand charter of the ten central trade unions and national and state federations.
The comparison between the way that the Government agencies are conducting themselves in Teesta’s case are in stark and shameful contrast to the way that the Government is protecting the accused in the Vyapam and other cases involving top Government and ruling party leaders.
The Left parties decided to hold an all India protest exposing corruption at high levels in this BJP central government as well as in various states on July 20. State level protest actions will be held demanding the removal and action against all those involved in corruption and nepotism.
Contrary to the propaganda that the BJP government has unleashed on the completion of one year in office, the livelihood conditions of the vast majority of the Indian people are actually declining. The massive hikes in the prices of petroleum products in the background of the fall in the international price of crude oil is fuelling all-round inflation, particularly of food items and essential commodities.
