The CPI(M) demands immediate action against the Delhi police for its highly condemnable actions against JNU students when male police manhandled and harassed girl students, while equally deplorable was the totally unwarranted action against the grieving mother of the missing student Najeeb who was dragged on the roads and arrested. Instead of launching an urgent and serious search for the missing student, the Delhi police has beaten, harassed and arrested those demanding justice.
Certain reports have appeared in a section of the media stating that the professors from the Jawaharlal Nehru University and the Delhi University who visited Bastar, Chattisgarh are being harassed with copies of the false complaints registered against them being sent to the concerned universities.

The never ending budget cuts in social welfare schemes, the bailout packages handed out to the corporate world and tax write offs for the rich clearly indicate where the government’s allegiance lies. The recent attacks on the institutions of higher education across the country are the demonic offspring of this unholy alliance.
The manner in which the sedition clause is being used in this case underlines the necessity to scrap the sedition clause 124A in the Indian Penal Code. The CPI(M) demands the withdrawal of the cases against the opposition leaders and all others named in the FIR.
