  • Joined State Congress in 1939
  • Became member of the Communist Party in 1940
  • Imprisoned for five years and six months; went under ground for four and half years
  • One among the 32 comrades who left the CPI National Council in 1964 to form the CPI(M).
  • Secretary of the Kerala State Committee between 1980 and 1992
  • Elected to Kerala Legislative Assembly in 1967, 1970, 1991 and 2001
  • Leader of Opposition from 1992 to 1996 and from 2001 till 2005
  • Currently, Member Central Committee &  Leader of the Opposition in the  Kerala Assembly
  • Married. Two children
