Press Statement
The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:
The RSS has supported the demand for the trifurcation of the state of Jammu & Kashmir. This is a disruptive move as the division of the state into three parts with Jammu as a separate state and Ladakh as a Union territory will be on religious lines. This is another instance of the blinkered view of the RSS which is detrimental for national unity.
Such a division will facilitate the detachment of Kashmir from the rest of India which is reminiscent of the proposal made by various agencies in the United States of America including the Kashmir Study Group. The RSS national executive by taking this stand is only playing into the hands of those external forces who wish to see the setting up of an independent Kashmir. The only solution to the problem of Jammu & Kashmir can be provision of maximum autonomy to the state as a whole with equitable distribution of powers and resources within the three regions.
