Press Statement

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

Remove Minister Ramachandran

The arrest of the Personal Assistant of the Minister of State for Finance, G. Ramachandran, for accepting a bribe of Rs. 4 lakhs is a shocking case of corruption. The fact that the bribe was taken for arranging a transfer of an officer in the taxation department shows the corrupt nexus that exists between ruling politicians and the bureaucracy.

Since the Personal Assistant, Perumalswami, is a political appointee of the minister concerned, there is no way the minister can escape responsibility for the misdeeds of his assistant. G. Ramachandran must immediately resign, failing which he should be removed from the Cabinet.
