The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:
NHRC Indicts Modi Government
The final report of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on the Gujarat violence confirms the culpability of the Narendra Modi government in the country’s worst communal pogrom. It has found the state government complicit in the violence. The NHRC report states that "there was a comprehensive failure of the State to protect the Constitutional rights of the people of Gujarat".
The NHRC report indicts the state government in its failure to book the culprits responsible for the heinous crimes, the defective FIRs lodged and the failure to even provide accurate information to the Commission.
The NHRC report underlines the necessity to forthwith dismiss the state government, if justice has to be done to the tens of thousands of victims of violence and meaningful steps taken for their rehabilitation. The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) demands that the Central government act upon the findings of the NHRC promptly.
