Press Statement

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

Condemnation Of Massacre In Tripura

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) vehemently condemns the mass killing of 19 people at Satchari Koloni, Simna in Tripura. A gang of extremists crossed the Indo-Bangladesh border and attacked the small hamlet, burning down houses and massacring its inhabitants. Of the 19 dead, seven are women and eight persons were injured. Most of them are supporters of the CPI(M).

On the same day, in two other incidents, the NLFT extremists killed a CPI(M) women tribal leader, Rasamala Debbarma, in Khowai and another two people in Radhanagar in north Tripura.

The Polit Bureau conveys its heartfelt condolences to the families of all those who have lost their lives in these attacks.

The mass killings in Simna highlights how the extremist groups are utilising sanctuaries across the border for their terrorist attacks. The Central government should immediately augment the paramilitary forces patrolling the border and provide sufficient security forces for combating the terrorist activities.
