Press Statement

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

                                                   Third Front based on Policies

There is some discussion on the nature of the non-BJP, non-Congress third alternative consequent to the remarks made regarding this by the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, Ms. Jayalalitha. The CPI(M) considers that a third front can be built up only on the basis of a common understanding. There has to be a policy framework for such an alliance which accords priority to fighting communalism and the anti-people economic policies which are being pursued at present.

It is necessary to judge political parties and their leadership from the standpoint of what policies they are pursuing and implementing. The personal origin of leaders cannot be the issue. What is relevant are the policies which they stand for in tackling the major problems facing the country.
