Press Statement

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

Incidents At Taj Mahal Condemned

The behaviour of the BJP youth wing workers at the Taj Mahal in Agra is shocking and condemnable. Hundreds of BJP youth wing workers who were attending their all-India conference in Agra entered the Taj Mahal premises on October 14 and indulged in rowdyism. Some of them defaced the marble façade by scribbling their names on it. They misbehaved with tourists and clashed with the security guards.

Such anti-social activities were taking place while the top leadership of the BJP was present at the conference venue in Agra. The Prime Minister himself addressed the conference. The speeches of the BJP-leaders like Uma Bharati were provocative and inflammatory. There was a concerted bid at the conference to resort to rhetoric which can create a communal polarisation.

The district administration instead of taking firm action against the miscreants has sought to cover up the incidents. By allowing free entry to the BJP workers, the authorities directly contributed to the situation.

The least that the Rajnath Singh government BJP can do is to instruct the administration to take firm action against those responsible.
